Emmanuel FARHI, Laureate of the Best Young Economist of France Award 2013

On May 27th 2013, Emmanuel FARHI, professor at Harvard University, affiliated to the Toulouse School of Economics was granted the Best Young Economist of France Award 2013 for his work on tax devaluation, capital taxation, monetary policy and international monetary system.

The Best Young Economist of France Award, organised by the Cercle des économistes and Le Monde, aims at rewarding academic excellence, innovation capacity and contribution to the public debate.

The Best Young Economist of France Award 2013 was handed to Emmanuel FARHI by Didier MIGAUD, first President of the Court of Auditors, under the honorary patronage of the Senate Chancellor Jean-Pierre BEL. The ceremony, taking place at the Sénat, was also attended by Jean-Hervé LORENZI, president of the Cercle des économistes, Jean-Michel Charpin, jury chairman, and Natalie NOUGAYREDE, Head of the broadsheet Le Monde.

THE LAUREATE

  • Emmanuel FARHI

Aged 34, professor at Harvard Unniversity, affiliated to Toulouse School of Economics, Emmanuel Farhi devotes his work to tax devaluation, capital taxation, monetary policy and international monetary system. He studied at the École Normale Supérieure, holds an agregation in Mathematics, graduated from l’École des Mines and has a Ph. D. from the MIT. Former member of the Conseil d’Analyse Économique, he has been granted several awards such as the Bernacer Prize (ECB) and has already been nominated for the The Best Young Economist of France Award 2009.

THE NOMINEES

  • Yann BRAMOULLÉ

Aged 39, Research Supervisor at the CNRS (Aix-Marseille), Yann Bramoullé is a social media and climate economy specialist. Alumni of the École Polytechnique, graduated from the École des ponts, des eaux et des forêts and holder of a Ph. D. from Maryland University, he taught eight years at Laval University.

  • Laurent GOBILLON

Aged 38, Laurent Gobillon is responsible for the Economic Demography Department at the INED (National Institute for Demographic Studies). His researches mainly address Geography Economics applied to practical issues. Alumni of the ENSAE, graduated from the EHESS (École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales), he pursued some post-doctoral studies   at UCL and at the LSE.

  • Nicolas JACQUEMET

Aged 34, Nicolas Jacquemet is professor at the Université de Lorraine, associate professor at Paris School of Economics and Junior Fellow of the Institut universitaire de France. He worked on public policy rating and experimental economy. Graduated from Lyon 2 University and Laval University, he holds an agregation in economics. He was granted the Best Economics Reseacher prize by the Banque de France in 2012.
