Biography

Benoît Cœuré has been Chairman of the Autorité de la Concurrence since 2022. Previously, he was Head of the Innovation Hub of the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) from 2019 to 2022 and Chair of the BIS’s Committee on Payments and Market Infrastructures. He was also a member of the Executive Board of the ECB from 2012 to 2018.

Prior to joining the ECB, he held various positions at the French Treasury and the French Office for Debt Management. Between 2007 and 2009, he served as Assistant Secretary for Multilateral Affairs, Trade and Development of France, Co-Chair of the Paris Club, and Financial Sub-Sherpa of the G8 and G20 for France. From 2009 to 2011, he was Deputy Director General and Chief Economist of the French Treasury.

Mr. Cœuré is a graduate of the École Polytechnique de Paris. He holds a Diploma of Advanced Studies in Statistics and Economic Policy from the National School of Statistics and Economic Administration (ENSAE), and a Bachelor’s degree in Japanese.

He is the author of several articles and books on economic policy, the international monetary system and the economics of European integration.
