Biography
David Thesmar is the Franco Modigliani Professor of Financial Economics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and is a member of the National Bureau of Economic Research and the Center of Economic Policy Research. He works on issues of behavioural economics, corporate finance, financial intermediation and macroeconomics. His work has been published in major international journals of finance and economics.
He was a member of the Council of Economic Analysis (from 2007 to 2014), is the author of numerous administrative reports, and has participated in numerous scientific councils in the public and private sectors.
He actively participates in the public debate, notably through a monthly column in Les Echos, which he has been writing with Augustin Landier since 2008. He has written several popular works with Augustin Landier, including Le Grand Méchant Marché (2007), and more recently La prix de nos valeurs (2022), both published by Flammarion.
David Thesmar is a graduate of Ecole Polytechnique and ENSAE, and holds a PhD in economics from EHESS. Before joining MIT, he was a director of INSEE, a professor at ENSAE and then at HEC Paris, where he headed the finance department.
