Philippe Martin (1966 – 2023)

Biography

Philippe Martin was Dean of the School of Public Affairs and Professor at Sciences Po (Paris). Until September 2022, he was Deputy Chairman of the CAE. In addition, he held the responsibilities of Vice‐President and Research Fellow at the CEPR in London, after having been Director of the Department of Economics at Sciences Po, Professor at the University of Paris 1‐Panthéon‐Sorbonne, and at the Paris School of Economics. In addition, he was a member of the Institut universitaire de France. Before joining the faculty in France, he gained experience as an economist at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. He also taught at École Polytechnique. Philippe Martin was awarded the WYPW in 2002. He served as economic advisor to Emmanuel Macron during his tenure as Minister of the Economy.

Philippe Martin’s areas of research were on international trade and international macroeconomics. His research has been published in prestigious journals such as the American Economic Review, the Quarterly Journal of Economics, the Review of Economic Studies, and the Journal of International Economics, among others. He also co-authored a book on geographic economics published by Princeton University Press. Philippe Martin was a graduate of Sciences Po and had earned a Ph.D. in economics from Georgetown University in Washington, DC.
